In 2018 I hiked the 800 mile-long Hayduke Trail across the American Southwest. I started in Arches National Park in Utah, worked my way down to the Grand Canyon in Arizona, then back up to Zion National Park in Utah. The Hayduke is one of the most challenging routes in America and many of the worlds most accomplished hikers agree. It's extremely remote, water is hard to find and navigation is tricky in canyon country. To call the Hayduke a trail is misleading because most of the time there is no trail. What makes this all worth it is an incredibly unique and scenic landscape like nothing else in the world. This is a collection of photos I have gathered from the Hayduke Trail.
I chose the Hayduke because it's remote and nobody has heard of it. I think "trails" like this are more adventurous and get us in touch with ourselves in ways that tamed wilderness travel can't. It's ironic to call the Hayduke a trail because most of the time I was not walking on a trail. It was rough, and hard to navigate but that's what I was looking for. This collection of photos was narrowed down from thousands of images. I chose these photos because they are aesthetically pleasing, but also because they represent the sights of the trail as best as could capture them.
